Sculptures & Prints
My principle work and passion is stone carving, creating fluid forms which invite tactile journeys.
The sculptures aim to be housed in dwellings and landscapes where they can stand with a quiet presence and dignity, addressing the contemplative imagination of the viewer.
In compliment to sculpture, I enjoy to make prints: while sculpture can be about making imprints on hard, durable materials, printmaking can be about sculpting with soft cloths and papers. The “collagraphs” and “monoprints” on display are literally prints made from collages of found and recycled relief materials, sculptural in themselves through their richness of texture and subtlety of colour. Meanwhile, the Sculptures gain a softness and fluidity of surface from methods of engraving as diverse as the power of blasting sand into stone to the delicacy of pushing lace into clay.
I am a member of The Devon Guild of Craftsmen and the SW Sculptors Association. I currently work and give some classes at The Clay Door Studio in Chudleigh, so called because it has the possibility of opening a door and discovering oneself through art.
