Des Maxwell Clark
Des Maxwell Clark is the master of carefully observed watercolour paintings. Most of his work is of landscape, but he also paints natural history subjects and occasional still life. Many pictures in this exhibition celebrate the beauty of winter – winter may not have seemed very pleasant this year, but beauty and spectacle is there if you take the time to notice it!
Des has a PhD in geomorphology ( the study of landscape) and is particularly skilled at depicting water aand atmosphere. As well as his understanding of the local Devon landscape, he has particular interests in English Chalk and, at the other end of the landscape spectrum, Deserts.
The careful attention to detail means that each picture takes a very long time to complete. So Des always makes affordable giclee prints of his work available. Some people prefer these as they are very much less expensive and are light fast, so can be hung in any setting including bright light. They are printed on high quality watercolour paper, and the colours are true to the originals.
Des has recently been studying climatic effects on landscape, such as the winter “larry” over the Estuary. He is also continuing his work on the interface between land and sea between Teignmouth and Watcombe.
